duotone on Grammy Night

“Adele was no doubt the star of last night’s Grammys, taking home six awards. And although Coldplay performed at the event, the band’s live performance was overshadowed by Chipotle’s “Back to the Start” ad, which featured Willie Nelson covering Coldplay’s ‘The Scientist’.”

Sunday night’s Grammys on CBS were peppered with duotone flavor — Chipotle branded short film “Back to the Start” (music supervision by duotone) aired for the first time on television in the middle of the awards show, shortly followed by a promo for the forthcoming primetime TV show NYC 22 (score by duotoners Peter Nashel and Pete Miser). Also Sunday night, Kevin Smith’s brand new show “Comic Book Men” (score by duotone) premiered on AMC. It was a big night!

Thursday, January 19th, 2012

Duotone’s Jack Livesey scores SHOOT’s “Top Spot of the Week”, collaborating with sound designer Brian Emrich to devise a chilling soundscape. Created out of Translation NY (Seth Jacobs, ECD), produced by @radical.media, and directed by Dave Meyers, this State Farm PSA, featuring LeBron James, portrays a haunting audio-visual journey to expose the repercussions of dropping out of school and urges kids to “Wake Up”.

Jack explains, “I wanted to create a composition that was stark because the film is so powerful in relaying the message – more chilling and unsettling than overtly frightening or horrifying…To me, it is always so satisfying to create something so simple, yet so effective.”

chipotle animated film named adweek’s #2 commercial of 2011

Friday, December 2nd, 2011

With over two million views on youtube, a moving eco-friendly narrative, and a legendary singer covering an equally prodigious band, Chipotle short film “Back to the Start” was just named the #2 spot on Adweek’s “Ten Best Commercials of 2011”!

Known for his support of family farmers, Willie Nelson was the perfect voice to cover the highly evocative Coldplay track “The Scientist”. The music, supervised by duotone, in conjunction with stellar animation by Johnny Kelly of Nexus Productions elicits an emotional viewing experience seldom inspired by traditional advertising. In September, the film short was introduced on the web and began airing in 5,700 movie theaters across the country. The music is available on iTunes and proceeds go to the Chipotle Cultivate Foundation, which is dedicated to creating a sustainable, healthful and equitable food future.
